The same incident occurred in 2008, when G-Star received complaints about sneakers making loud noises while walking; even one customer said her grandmother had cried when she found out her pair of shoes were defective. In an international conference call, Adidas was forced to release a statement after the conference call ended earlier than planned. According to the company's COO, Uli Becker-Sonnenberger, a general manager from a retailer had received a faulty batch of G-Star sneakers that were not being distributed in stores yet. The faulty shoes were to be delivered to retail units in China and Taiwan, but after noticing that the shoes were defective, they reported their findings before sending them out. In its statement to investors and shareholders, Adidas said as follows: "In line with our quality control processes we have been working together with our supplier on an improved manufacturing method for those styles. We recognize this has led to some disruption to the market. We are working hard to resolve this issue as quickly as possible."
